Julia Alvarez is the award-winning author of How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents and In the Time of the Butterflies. Her highly acclaimed books for young readers include Secret Footprints, A Thank You Gift, Aunt Lola's series, In Search of Miracles, and Returning to Sender. Alvarez has received several awards for her works, including the Pura Belpré Award and the Americas Award for her children's books, the Hispanic Heritage Award in Literature, and the F.
