Aurora Australis Dazzles Southern Queensland and NSW
Stargazers in southern Queensland and New South Wales were treated to a spectacular display of the Aurora Australis over the weekend, driven by heightened solar activity. Prime viewing locations included Peak Crossing near Ipswich, Best Of All Lookout at Springbrook, and Lake Moogerah near Aratula. The phenomenon was triggered by a significant solar storm originating from sunspot 4100, which emitted a long-lasting solar flare on May 31. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to remain high through at least June 3, offering additional opportunities to witness this extraordinary sight.
